Meet the Sponsors: The Lunenburg Makery
The Halifax Crafters Beary Merry Market is just around the corner. While all of our crafters are frantically putting the finishing touches on their handmade goodies we wanted to introduce you to some people who have made this year’s market possible with their generous support. The Lunenburg Makery is an exciting new business in the world of handmade, where they invite you to get crafty and creative in the company of good friends.
Meet Michelle Engel of The Lunenburg Makery:
About The Lunenburg Makery:
The Makery is a place for learning, making and gathering around craft. We are a storefront located in the historic Burns Block on Lincoln Street in Lunenburg. We have a small retail space and a library of craft related books and magazines. We also have created a line of craft kits from our selection of 100% wool felt. The back of our shop is a sewing studio and sitting room where you can spread out and get sewing with our array of equipment or get cozy with a cup of tea and your knitting. From our windows, we enjoy the inspiring view of the Lunenburg waterfront. It’s a lovely place to be.
Crafty individuals and groups like to use our Lincoln Street shop space and studio as a home base for their gatherings and we have studios available above the shop for teaching, making and gathering for all purposes and timeframes.
We offer artist-led courses and workshops as well as drop-in programming, teaching DIY skills and promoting making with friends. We think making things together is a great way to build community and grow great ideas.
Why we wanted to be a part of Halifax Crafters:
One of the most important and rewarding things the Makery does is to provide support to emerging artists and crafters. We want to be a part of building the capacity of the making community by connecting artists and crafters to teaching and learning opportunities. We do this by providing business training opportunities, special making equipment and a network of engaged community members interested in local art and craft.
As we gather a community of makers we’re expanding into professional development workshops for crafty entrepreneurs with Jessika Hepburn of “Oh My! Handmade Goodness.” Keep watching our Blog for dates for this kind of crafter-friendly stuff that’s always happening at the Makery. If you think we might be able to provide space, equipment or support for your crafting work, let us know! We love to collaborate and meet new makers. We strive to be a positive space where people can be a part of the exciting handmade movement and can find encouragement and community.
I’ve always enjoyed the Halifax Crafters’ Market and when the opportunity to sponsor the event came up we jumped at the chance. After all, The Coast readers have spoken; it is the best craft show!
We sincerely appreciate the strong craft tradition of the Maritimes and believe that a new generation of crafters deserves our support and attention. This initiative is exciting and important. We’re sponsoring the Crafters’ Market because we believe in crafters and their work!
