Meet The Sponsors: Made in the Maritimes

May 3, 2019 | Halifax Crafters Society

While the Maritime provinces all have unique identities, there’s a lot of we share. Let’s see – just to name a few: there’s great seafood, wild winters, and you can’t throw a rock without hitting a humble little craft brewery or a beloved music venue. Not to mention, there’s the age-old debate about whether we should just become one big province.

One more thing the Maritimes have in common? An abundance of talented artisans, crafters, and makers, both rural and urban, traditional and modern. Our rich history of handicraft remains a current and vital part of Maritime cultural expression. In Halifax, Made in the Maritimes boutique celebrates crafters and artisans from our three provinces and now across Canada.

Open for almost four years at their Bedford Location and nearly three years in the Hydrostone Market, Made in the Maritimes has established itself as one of the region’s destinations for handmade local products. With over 150 artisans and crafters represented, it’s the perfect place to stop in for a Mother’s Day gift. Next weekend, they’re having a 4th Birthday Party where you can shop tax free!

It’s hard to believe this little idea of ours is now 4 years old! We’re truly humbled by the support of our stores and are so proud of what we’ve done to raise the profile of the local arts community. To celebrate, we’re having a tax free sale at both locations on Saturday, May 11th. It’s also @ilovelocalhfx Open City so we’ll have lots of @novascotiafisherman samples and other prizes to give away. Nothing says I love you more than a beautiful handmade gift from Made in the Maritimes ❤️ #shopmadeinthemaritimes #taxfree #sale #4thbirthday #halifax #Hydrostonemarket #bedfordns #sunnysidemall #independentretailer #buylocal #art #craft #madeinthemaritimes

If you’re not in the HRM, you can browse and purchase fine art through the Made in the Maritimes online shop. At their brick-and-mortar locations, there’s so much craft represented! You’ll find lots of items to help furnish and decorate your space, including pottery, fine art and art prints, textiles, woodwork and carvings, photography, housewares, small furniture, glass art, and a host of other fun pieces. For you and your loved ones, there’s cards and paper products, a range of jewellery, gourmet edibles, luxurious local health and beauty products, and many other handcrafted items. Of course, crafts from Halifax Crafters Society members can be found at both shops, too! You’ll just have to pop in and check out the wide selection.

Made in the Maritimes offers customers the opportunity to buy local, handmade products from artisans in their own communities, while showcasing works from makers they likely won’t see elsewhere in the province. The result is a mix that highlights both the diversity and unity of Maritime craft.

We are so fortunate to have Made in the Maritimes as a sponsor – and as a community of crafters, we’re lucky to have a space where crafts are showcased, promoted, and celebrated! Thank you, Made in the Maritimes!
